Things To Do

We're so excited for everyone to experience everything we love about Houston. The map on the left includes some of our favorite spots, as well as the hotels where we've reserved room blocks and our event venues. Hope this helps orient you and get ready to explore our city!

The New York Times published a "36 Hours in Houston" article which was received in Houston with mixed reviews. In response, the Houston Chronicle wrote their own article that is really spot-on in capturing all the best parts of Houston. Check those out for some great recommendations, some of which are included in our own personal recommendations below (and our wedding weekend venues)!

Museum of Fine Arts Houston

A visit to the new Kinder building at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston is a must. Be sure to check out the light installations in the three underground tunnels that connect all the museums buildings. General admission is free on Thursdays!

Menil Collection

The main gallery building of the Menil Collection anchors a beautiful, 30-acre neighborhood with massive oak trees, green space, and an additional
four museum buildings. Plus, they're
all free admission every day!

Rothko Chapel

Right next to the main Menil building, the Rothko Chapel is also always free. Visit the chapel for a quiet moment to take in the massive Rothko paintings, and enjoy the surrounding green space and reflection pool. Fun fact: the sculpture in the reflecting pool - broken obelisk - has a twin sculpture on the University of Washington campus!

Museum of Natural Science

You could spend hours exploring the Houston Museum of Natural Science, but be sure to check out our favorites - the dinosaur hall, seashell collection, and the butterfly center!

Houston Zoo

One of our favorite spots to visit with our nieces to see the monkeys, elephants, sea lions, native Texas wetlands animals, and more! The Houston Zoo's new, first-of-its-kind Galapagos exhibit is opening a few weeks before our wedding, so be sure to check that out too. Plus, it's right across from our wedding venue in Hermann Park!

Hermann Park

The first apartment we lived in together was right across the street from Hermann Park. We took walks along oak tree-lined paths, biked to the reflection pool, watched Harvey's floodwaters inundate the golf course - lots of memories. Check out great spots like the Houston Zoo, McGovern Centennial Gardens, and the Hermann Park Railroad

Buffalo Bayou Park

We love biking to Buffalo Bayou Park. You're guaranteed great city skyline views from the lawn of Eleanor Tinsley Park. Wander deeper into the trails and you might be lucky enough to see some bayou wildlife - birds, river otters, alligators, oh my!

Memorial Park

One time David saw Houston rap legend Slim Thug on the trails of Memorial Park and stopped to chat with him - one of the highlights of his life and just one of the reasons to love this 1,500 acre park with endless trails to explore. You can also find the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center here!
Houston is arguably the best food city in the U.S., so wherever you eat, you really can't go wrong. Below are just a few of our favorites! You can also check out the Houston Chronicle's list of 100 best restaurants for inspiration.
Dive bars and great deals on drinks - two of our favorite things! Below are some of our frequented watering holes, but just like the food scene, there are endless great options to choose from!
